about janet

Janet enjoys speaking, teaching, and offering spiritual direction in a wide range of contexts.  In the midst of teaching, she draws out the voices of the participants, helping individuals and teams imagine new ways in which their strengths can positively impact their lives.

She most often speaks about women and the spiritual life from the context of her book, The Feminine Soul, but also has wisdom, personal experience, and collected thoughts on a broader range of topics such as leadership development, emotional intelligence, spiritual growth and formation, and creativity and spirituality. Her experience of her son’s brain tumor journey along with her years in hospital chaplaincy has prepared her to speak about pastoral care, self-care, and grief in inspiring ways. Her second book, Sacred Healing: MRIs, Marigolds, and Miracles (23rd Publications, 2010) addresses this journey. In her third book, My Own Worst Enemy:How to Stop Holding Yourself Back (Bethany House, March 2012) Janet explores both the calling of women to shine and the complex dynamic of self-sabotage that often keeps them from daring to obey. She shows women how to break the cycle of shame and self-doubt to achieve their full potential.

She currently enjoys gardening, reading, good food with friends, traveling, spending time with her grown children and grand-dog, amateur photography, and long nature walks.  Janet and her husband Bob live in Austin, Texas.  This summer Janet and Bob welcomed their first grandchild, Georgia Lynn.
